Happy early birthday Tom! Just remember for future reference, 40 is the new 30.

And apparently 50 is the new 40... so that does that make 60 the new 50? Then what about 70? Does the chain keep going? And will 40 eventually be the next 20?

...I've confused myself.

the first cover that comes to my mind is Paradise Lost's Mercy played by Orphaned Land (Israeli progrock band), somehow I like it much.. that eastern touch makes it more uplifting or so..

and speaking of Paradise Lost, I like their cover of Bronski Beat's Smalltown Boy

and one that you'll probably find really bad, but I like it: Mnemic's Wild Boys (Duran Duran)

there are also some tribute/cover albums I like, my favourite is The Lotus Eaters (Dead Can Dance tribute), then Love Like Blood: Chronology Of A Love Affair and Laibach's Jesus Christ Superstars (has covers for Lloyd Webber, Juno Reactor, Prince) plus their other covers, e.g. for Status Quo:

Therion is a Swedish symphonic metal band, I really love the clip, it puts the song into a new context.

New Years Day by U2.
Was covered by FLA (Tiffany on Vocals).

I work with a U2 nut. She's obessessed. But I had to show her that one. I found it the cover had potential to be better but it wasn't too bad. Reminded me of how Delerium migrated from somber and moodful to pop-ish and mainstream.
